Renewable Portfolio Standard Passes Colorado Senate
The Colorado State Senate has voted in favor of SB 180, which establishes a
renewable portfolio standard of ten percent by 2010 in Colorado. This
legislation, introduced by Senator Terry Phillips (D-Louisville), passed on the
second reading late this afternoon (29 April) on a 16-14 vote. After this bill
passes its third reading in the Senate, it will go to the Colorado House of
Representatives, where Majority Leader Lola Spradley (R-Beulah) is the House
sponsor.
SB 180 implements a state renewable portfolio standard requiring that the
state’s investor-owned utilities provide or acquire two percent of their power
from renewable energy sources (such as wind, solar and biomass) in 2004,
increasing to ten percent in 2010 and beyond. For details on SB 180, and to
